On May 26, 2011, the county held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Gaithersburg High School. The ceremony featured remarks by Dr. Christine Handy-Collins (GHS principal), County Executive Ike Leggett, Board of Education President Christopher Barclay, MCPS Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jerry Weast and City of Gaithersburg Mayor (and GHS alum) Sidney Katz.

The new building will be constructed on the site of the current Gaithersburg High School. When complete in August 2013, it will be the largest high school building in the county, with state-of-the-art facilities, geothermal heating and a vegetative roof. This building is long-overdue and will provide an excellent learning environment for our students.

The Education Foundation is raising $50,000 to pay for building-related improvements for the facility, including an electronic entrance sign and supplements to the furniture and equipment budget for the school. Please donate to our GHS building fund!
