The Ed Foundation played a part in a reunion of a different sort this week. A few weeks ago, a good Samaritan sent the high school a class ring from Gaithersburg High School. The ring had been found nearly twenty-five years ago in a restaurant in Tennessee but the finders could not locate its owner. All they knew was that the ring was from the class of 1951, with the initials “RNO” inside. The school sent us the ring and asked for our help.
After a little detective work and consultation of a 1951 yearbook in the school’s library, we were able to identify the owner as Raymont Neal Owens. We tracked down his son this week and reunited him with his father’s ring. Unfortunately, Mr. Owens had passed in 2012, but his son was very touched to be reconnected through this truly surprise gift. We simply were happy to see a piece of Gaithersburg make it back to its owner after such a long time.
